Muss and Turner’s is by far one of my favorite lunch spots in the city; quality ingredients, creative and tasty sandwiches, attention to detail… and they have a Big Green Egg out front that welcomes you with a whiff smoky goodness as you enter.
M&T has been around for a while; located in the Ivey Walk live/work/play complex off Atlanta Road in Smynings (that’s the lawless border region between high end Vinings and lowly Smyrna (JK)). They offer a pretty large selection of sandwiches and a few entrees that are segregated by protein type on the menu. All of the meat and poultry are made fresh daily and many get the BGE treatment. They also have a wonderful cheese and cured meats case where you can buy by the ounce.
I usually stick to the chicken side of the menu, trying to stay healthy and all, and one of my two favorites is the Order of The Phoenix, which consists of roasted Springer Mtn. chicken, melted white cheddar, sweet onions, red bell peppers, crimini mushrooms, and sambal aioli on a fresh toasted hoagie roll…damn that sounds good.
My other favorite is the Tuscan Raider, which consists of a brined BGE grilled chicken, prosciutto, Italian herbs, melted mozzarella and garlic creme fraiche on a rosemary garlic ciabatta bun! As you can tell, all of their menu names are references to pop culture similar to their sister restaurant, Local Three .
Other solid options include the Bucky Goldstein (Brisket sandwich), Aporkalypse Now (think bahn mi) and the Thai Turkey Salad. All of their sandwiches come with your choice of pickle – spicy (very), old (more traditional) or garlic (too much for my taste). You can also get all of their sandwiches with double meat if you must. Some say that the sandwiches are a little pricey, coming in around $9 to $13, but you get what you pay for; the quality of ingredients and the care to which they’re handled and assembled is well worth it to me. They also serve a completely different dinner menu that includes dishes similar to local three.
