Daniel Humm (of 11 Madison Park fame)opened The Nomad restaurant on the main level of the new Nomad hotel earlier this year to much fanfare from the media and those who wanted a taste of his exquisite cooking at reasonable prices; which means less than $200…If you try and go you need to know there is another Nomad on Open Table that usually always has reservations so be sure to get the correct one! Aside from the awesome main dining room (dark, low rise tables with comfortable arm chairs) there is a decent sized bar and a really cool first come first served two story “Library” serving a limited, but amazing menu!
You have to wait an hour during prime time to get in, but it’s worth it; super laid back and great little bites; sweetbreads, ham and cheese on pretzel bread, amazing fried chicken and a really cool beef tartar in a small heirloom jar.
It was obviously a little dark, hence the fuzzy pictures, but there was a really cool vibe to the place and it was great for people watching. The ham and cheese and tartar were the best items we had and I will definitely go back.
In total, my guest and I had two drinks, tried four items and still got out under $100; that’s a steal for a spot like this in NYC!
